Sermon Series: Bearing the Burden of Restoration
Continuing our Galatians Series at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church
"Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ." — Galatians 6:2
This Sunday at MMBC, Pastor Shannon McCubbins continues our walk through Galatians with a message titled "Bearing the Burden of Restoration."
In this passage, the Apostle Paul lays out our responsibility as fellow believers when a brother or sister is overtaken by sin. He doesn't command us to condemn them or to kick them while they're down. Instead, he tells us to restore them by helping to bear their burden — and in doing so, we fulfill the law of Christ.
What "Restore" Really Means
The word restore in the original Greek carries a powerful picture: to mend, the way a doctor splints or casts a broken bone. When one of us falls to sin, the goal should never be punishment for its own sake. The goal is always restoration — setting the break so healing can begin.
How We Bear the Burden
Bringing restoration to a fellow believer calls for three things:
Intercessory prayer — lifting them before the Lord
Presence — being willing to step into the situation rather than stand at a distance
Truth spoken in love — words that come from a heart of compassion, not condemnation
In this way, we help lift one another out of the muck of sin.
A Shared Responsibility
Ultimately, we are each responsible for our own actions, and we will each be held personally accountable. Yet it's through God's grace and mercy that He sends people our way to pick us up when we fall. When someone comes alongside to bear our burden, we should welcome them graciously.
We'd love to have you join us at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church!
